RCC Photography Students Gain Hands-On Experience at Linbrook Heritage Estate

This fall, students in Randolph Community College’s Portrait and Wedding Photography program had a unique opportunity to refine their skills during a bridal portrait session at the stunning Linbrook Heritage Estate. Nestled in Randolph County at the foothills of the Uwharrie Mountains, the 36,000-square-foot estate, with its grand Greek Revival architecture and sweeping grounds, offered a breathtaking setting for creative expression.

“We are grateful for this opportunity for our students,” said Amelia Phillips Hale, Portrait and Wedding Instructor in RCC’s Photographic Technology program. “Linbrook provides a rich variety of backdrops—from classic columns to elegant interiors and shaded garden paths—giving students the chance to work in both natural and controlled lighting environments.”

The session served as a valuable real-world learning experience for students at all levels. Second-year students gained hands-on practice in a professional setting, while first-year students, who modeled as brides, got an exciting preview of what the portrait and wedding specialization entails.

When asked about her biggest takeaway from the experience, second-year student Katie Vann simply said, “Posing. I learned a lot about posing.” Fellow second-year student Claire Patsevouras, who hopes to pursue wedding photography, emphasized the importance of attention to detail. “It’s the little things—the light, the textures, the backgrounds—that make a photo feel magical,” she said. “Linbrook was absolutely gorgeous. It’s truly a photographer’s dream spot.”

The ongoing collaboration between Linbrook Heritage Estate and Randolph Community College offers a unique, mutually beneficial experience, supporting student experiences while highlighting one of the area’s most beautiful landmarks.
